This morning Jonny called telling me that he quit his SWICC training program. He said they were doing a deep water survival test. They had to go under 15 feet or so, get beat up, turned around, etc. Then they get tapped and they have to go to another place to get beat up, then they go get air. He said he got done with the first one, got two strokes in toward the second one and he just cramped up into a ball and took in a lot of water. Next thing he knew he was on the deck throwing up and they were ording him back in the water. He said no 3 times. He said he just didn't have control of his body yet.
Well... what really happened was that it took them 2 min to revive him. They told him to get back in and he said no. Then they said "You DOL (or wahtever the acronym is for "quit") if you refuse to get in the water" and he said "no". Then they said, "This is your last chance. Get back in the water." He said "no". He said it took him some time to come fully aware and then he realized what took place.
He's got a good attitude about it though. You know his first choice was the Academy, but he didn't make the cut there because he didn't take Chemistry in highschool. Well one of his instructors knew that and when Jonny went to sign whatever form(s) he had to sign, the instructor came and found him and told him to get his paperwork for the Academy ready and he would give him a recommendation. I told Jonny that God has a plan and what has happend was meant to happen. He said he knows, and that he has mixed feelings. In some ways he's glad, in some ways he's devistated.
He said tomorrow he doesn't have anything to do, "So I'm gonna go play about 45 holes of golf."
