Verse For This Year
Every year I ask the Lord for a verse or concept to focus on for the year. This year he gave me Phillipians 4:12.


I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
Even this early in the process, the Lord is quickly beginning to put this concept in front of me repeatedly. A friend just forwarded me... you know... another touching story. (I have to confess that I don't read all the forwards that are sent to me) But at the end of this story was the following:


Every day be thankful for what you have and who you are.


Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings.
Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are m any who are deaf.

Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible.
Thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.

Even though ugh I huddle in my bed and put off rising.
Thank you, Lord, that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.

Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned, tempers are short, and my children are so loud.
Thank you, Lord, for my family. There are many who are lonely.

Even though our breakfast table never looks like the picture in magazines and the menu is at times unbalanced.
Thank you, Lord, for the food we have. There are many who are hungry.

Even though the routine of my job often is monotonous.
Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job.

Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest.
Thank you, Lord, for life.

And I would add...
Even though our relationships with friends and family are sometimes strained, broken and unhealthy,
Thank you, Lord, for those friends and family. Many have nobody to love or to be loved by.

So when I find myself in want, hungry or in need - I can know that God has in mind a grand supply, because that's just how He is. Ps. 103:5 He satisfies my desires with good things.
