Some Stuff I've Been Doing

Working on Jonny's quilt, for one.


And I went to Seward last weekend to enjoy a nice ocean breeze.

Then we went to do some very important business!!


We are going to have a Web Log class
put on by the Peninsula's Yellow Ribbon Club coming up in October.

Some Fire / New Cabin Pics
This is how close the Caribou Hills fire came
to Mike Sawyer's cabin.

My goal in taking this picture is to give you a look at the "before" of our new cabin.

We plan on doing a lot of clearing of the land, fixing up the cabin and building another outbuilding.

I have many before pictures. They will be posted at our snowbunnies site. It will be fun to see the progress.








Below are before and after pictures of the interior. The difference is huge, although it's hard to tell from the pictures. More indoor pix on snowbunnies too.

Jacob's IM Picture
I talked with Jacob on the internet tonight. What a blessing to us soldiers' mommys that we have the internet. He's doing well. It was tomorrow morning there. But here it's still just today. :D

News From the Boys!
Jacob thinks he will be state-side in April!!! That is so good to hear! He's hard at work in a new location than where he's been most of his deployment. In fact, he's at the same base that Keith was at while he was there. Unfortunately (fortunately...?) Keith is back home now. Left just before Jacob was stationed there. We are still deep in prayer for Jacob as he is moved from a successfully secured area into an area that's not so secure. God keep him safe and successful.

Jonny has written us several times. Of course, Jonny can tell us more about what he's doing than Jacob can. Jonny, you know, is at the Naval Boot Camp. He wrote that "Camp is GREAT!! We sleep in tents, swim in the lake on hot sunny days and eat smores at night while we sing by the camp fire!"

Then he went on to describe how it really goes. Long days of physical training, classes, eating then sleeping - lights out at 10 pm. They wake at quarter to five (they call that "O Four Forty Five" 04:45), and start it all over again.

He said it goes like this:

Learn to clean
Lern to run hard
Learn to shut up
Learn to pay attention to detail
and most importantly,
Learn to calm down.

Something I know about Jonny makes me get a visual picture of what he's doing there. Jonny counts EVERYTHING. I mean EVERYTHING. I can just see him standing there at attenetion fingers by his side, tappling his leg with his thumb, "one", index finger, "two"... all the way to the upper 40's as he counts how many times his angry drill sergaent says the "f" word during this particular conversation. he he... Oh, Lord... give him grace and endurance.

My Friends in Ministry
This is my friend. He is a Wycliffe Bible Missionary. He goes to far-off places to a land with no Bible, lives with a people group learning thier language in order to create a dictionary from which to translate the scriptures. He sends us newsletters and keeps us up to date on his travels.

I have had a picture of him on my fridge for years to help me remember to pray for him. One time I flew home and saw that picture on my mom's fridge, my sister's fridge and my aunt's fridge. I decorate in rustic style, my mom decorates in southwestern, my sister in asian and my aunt in country - but we all have that one decor item in common. His picture on our fridge.
He's often in dangerous situations, so we are not able to talk about where he does his work. But prayer for him is very important, as well as financial support as you might imagine!

Another friend I have in a ministry is Kathy. Kathy and and her ministry partner Lois are about 67 years old who go around preaching to prisoners all over the US. I personally know someone who is the product of prison ministry and I have been so blessed to see God bring about such a beautiful redemption in his life. "Redeeming the years the locust have eaten."

I knew my first friend listed here growing up, so I learned about his ministry from talking with him as he prepared. I was in church when Kathy came to our service on a Sunday when she was ministering to our area prisons. The 3rd minstry I pray for, I learned about in an indirect way. It is the ministry of a friend's daughter. I have never met her, but as soon as I heard about her efforts, the Lord laid her strong on my heart.

My friend is Retired Army Chaplain Donley. His daughter's name is Laurel. Her daughter (and his granddaughter)'s name is Annie. I have posted a picture of Annie, but I will tell you about Laurel's ministry.

Laurel's ministry is to help rape and abuse victims on a college campus. She is younger than I am, but doing work that seems more fit for an old, wise, loving saint. I respect that tremendously.

One of the things that I feel so called to pray for is Laurel's health. She suffers from a rare disease that gives her a lot of pain. She's a young mother and has a second job beyond her ministry.

I've never met her, have never spoken to her nor emailed her, but I have spent many hours in intersession for her health and effectiveness on campus in the hard work that she is doing. I keep up to date on her (and Annie!) through her father, my friend, Chaplain Donley.

A Sweet Prayer
Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love.

Love's the only house big enough for all the pain in the world.
