| My Hero, the Sloth |
The kids at school now call Chris "Sid the Sloth" because he reminds them of Sid on "Ice Age." Well, my little Sid is my hero lately and I'll tell you why.
I have a scanning business, and recently I have started offering 35mm slide conversion to digital. It is very cool because all those old slides of the kids sitting there waiting to be looked at again can now be digitized, made into dvd's that can be put right into your dvd player and give you a slide show on your tv instead of having to pull out your old projector and slide screen (assuming you still have those!).
Well, this contract is for 17 carousels of 140 slides each. (a couple were 80 slides per carousel, actually) The conversion equipment is slow, so it takes about 5 minutes per slide. So with the compilation of dvd's at the end, we're talking about a job that will take me about 200 hours worth of work.
The way the equipment operates, I load the slide carrier with 4 slides. Then I have to be at the computer the whole time in order to click through each element of the conversion process for each slide. There are about 5 or more elements of conversion for each slide, so I have to click through them... wait, click again, wait... etc. Then go to the next slide... click through, wait, click again, wait...
Chris found a program on the internet that automates all of that redundant clicking. Now I only have to be at my computer once every 20 minutes. That has freed me up to do things like housework, cooking dinner, argue with the kids, sell stuff on ebay, do my church music stuff, sew on Jonny's quilt.... I feel like I have my life back again!! This was a contributing factor to the desperation I felt when I posted my last entry.
I have my life back, my family is getting fed again and we don't have to shovel a path through the house anymore now... I'm getting that all cleaned up finally!!
