 MEMORIAL DAY PLANS:
We are going to Jacolof Bay with a group of Terry Coreson's friends for Memorial Day. I've been told there will be about 30 people there. I looked it up to see if there were any hotels, hot tubs, spas, massage therapists or shopping malls there for us ladies... Well... accoring to the Alaska State Community Information Summaries web site, Jackolof Bay has an estimated population of 39. Not 39"thousand," not 39"hundred".... 39 individual human beings. But that's just an estimate. What? You can't count exactly 39 people? If you say "give or take a couple", that's like.. what? a 15% margin of error? I guess our vacation party is going to nearly double the local population. Imagine that. Anyway... the Alaska State Community Information Summaries web site goes on to describe the following category of the community: "Facilities, Utilities, Schools and Health Care
The majority of homes haul water and use privies. A few residents have individual wells and septic systems. One-third of homes are fully plumbed. Many homes in this area are used only seasonally... "  "Privies??" This is not all that unusual for us Alaskans. I just hope I can stay warm, dry, have a privie all to myself . I'd like to get a chance to read in a folding chair with the salty smell of the bay on the breeze, listening to people talking and laughing... enjoying time around a campfire.
This is going to be our last excursion with Jonathan as a member of our household. I plan to take a lot of pictures and I will post them when we get back.
